Just Follow Me

Have you ever had anyone say to you “Oh, it’s easy just follow me”? What happened when you followed? Did you question yourself?

Well….. my son told me he was going the way I was asking about yesterday. He said we would turn left and go around the circle towards the middle school, then pass the elementary school and we would come out by the Pizza Inn not far from home. “Follow me”, he said. So I did. We took a left and then started going around the circle… and going around the circle… and finally I caught on – he was laughing and having fun while I followed his lead. Now I must defend him and tell you that he is very good about helping me and not leading me astray most of the time – but today he thought he needed a laugh so he had some fun.

This got me to thinking, how many times are we lead astray or the long way around because we decided to “just follow me”? Sometimes we follow people who care about us and sometimes we just follow anyone trying to get where we are suppose to be going. I don’t know about you but I have found myself on more than one occasion being in the wrong place and lost because I followed the wrong person. Life is hard enough each and every day without taking the long way or taking unnecessary detours. In Deuteronomy my bible is very clear about who I should be following.

"You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him."
Deuteronomy 13:4 (NASB)

Don’t be so fast to “just follow me” next time but line up with the Lord and where he is leading you to get to your final destination!!
